This last school year, his Kindergarten year, we picked up where he left off in his reading. He had just finished Hooked on Phonics for K, and began their first grade program. He pretty much sailed through it. What astounded me toward the end of this school year was his ability to read words he hadn't been taught how to read phonetically. He technically has never learned long vowels, silent e, and diphthongs, yet he can read words that contain them easily. It's pretty remarkable. I guess he's just a natural reader!
Also, he simply loves to read. It's been years since he's taken a nap. But he still has his "quiet time" every day. He usually will take a book or two, or three into my room and read while Sophia is having her afternoon nap. It's been great for all of us, and it make school so much easier! Right now he's reading Peter Pan, it's 160 pages. Again, we're simply blown away.
Reading "Billy and Blaze" outloud to me during school today.
