10 weeks

This post was supposed to be her two month post, but we were out of town when she turned two months. Yesterday was her two-month check up, though. Just as suspected, she has grown a lot. She went from 10 lbs 11 oz and 22 inches at one month, to 11 lbs 8.5 oz and 24 inches at ten weeks! That puts her in the 95th percentile for her height and 75th for her weight. I guess she might take after her uncles and be fairly tall! Her check-up went well, she got three shots. She only cried a little and her big brother held her hand the whole time.

Yesterday afternoon she finally had her appointment with the orthopedist to find out if there were still any issues with her hips. (Remember, her pediatrician discovered that she had "loose hips" at about a week old and referred us to the orthopedist.) Well, after an exam and looking at her ultrasound results it was determined that she has hip dysplasia in her left hip. I guess I should have known and been ready for this news, but somehow I thought that everything would be fine. We had been told that she might have grown out of the problem on her own. But she didn't. So, she was fitted with a brace that she will have to wear 23 hours a day for two weeks. It has certainly already been a challenge. She loves to kick her legs and squirm around as much as she can, so she's not a fan of her legs being partially immobilized.

Yesterday was a bit rough after we got home and had to put her in it for the first time. She was really tired and running a slight fever from her shots. She was trying to drift off to sleep, but kept trying to stretch out her legs. When she realized she couldn't, she would get really upset and start wailing. Thank goodness she's not usually a fussy baby, because a more temperamental baby would not tolerate this very well. She's doing much better today. It's a bit of a challenge for all of us to keep her happy and comfortable right now. It's harder to change her diaper, feed her and even just carry her around.

We have a follow-up ultrasound and appointment with the orthopedist in two weeks. We're hoping that this is all the time needed for her hips to heal properly.
